Professional Organizations

If you decide to pursue a career in supply chain management, you will find that there exist a number of professional organizations affiliated with your career. These organizations have professional certification programs that establish an individual as a professional within his or her particular career. These organizations also have regular meetings at the local level that allow people to keep track of each other, network, and identify emerging trends and issues. Many also have national and international meetings once or twice a year to provide an opportunity for this networking to occur on a national and international level. Some of these organizations are described here, along with their websites:

ISM

Institute for Supply Managment (www.ism.ws)

Provides national and international leadership in purchasing and materials management, particularly in the areas of education, research, and standards of excellence. Established in 1915, ISM has grown to 40,000 members.

The 91st Annual ISM International Conference convened at the Minneapolis Convention Center, May 7 to May 10, 2006. For the second year in a row, NC State University exhibited our unique MBA Supply Chain program. Former students were on hand to tell of their experiences and answer questions.
